Band: Angra

Interviewpartner: Kiko Loureiro

Can you tell me what happened since the release of your last record?

Right after the release we started the tour from Brazil. We did about 25 concerts in Brazil and one in Argentina and also Chile during November and December. In January we prepared the mini-album, and also played in the São Paulo city anniversary for about 12000 people just to see Angra. In the end of February we went to Europe for some promotion and a tour including Germany, France, Holland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Belgium. Then we came back to Brazil and did some more concerts just before going to Japan and Twain in June.

How satisfied are you with your new record (the songs, the sound)?

Yes, pretty much. And the fans and press also gave us confidence on that.

Between your last record and this new EP was not very much time. Why you have released so fast these two records?

We had two songs left from the recording of Rebirth, and we had to go in studio to record Kashimir for a Led Zeppelin tribute. So we decided to record some songs that Rafael and me had already. The only problem was staying in the studo during our summertime...

How are the reactions of the press?

So far, very good. We just came from Europe, and we colud talk to a lot of people, and everybody is saying good things about this mini-album.

What can you say about the cover and the title?

In Angra we always worked with the dialectics of life on the lyrics. That´s again a good exemple.

The cover was made by the same person who did Rebirth, Isabel De Amorim, and we tried to keep the same atmosphere from Rebirth, but a little more agressive, and again trying to bring the context of contrasts, as we use in the lyrics and in the music.

What can you tell us about your lyrics? How does the songwriting process work in your band?

Mainly Rafael and me bring the songs and the band works the arrangements. Edu is also a very good composer, so he is always bringing good songs and ideas.

Do you have still contact with the old members?

NO.

Which metal market is more important for you, the European or the south american?

Both, but is very nice playing in Sao Paulo, our city, having lots of friends and family there.

Japan is also very important, because they were the first to believe in the band

How good or bad would you describe the Brazilian metal scene?

It is very creative, talking about the bands. But the bussiness side could be better. Few people have the know-how to do it properly. It is very young market, and we need more time to develop as a solid market.

Do you have any idols?

Not really, but i´m always trying to learn something from the people that spread the knowledge and did some changes in their generation. Could be Tom Jobim, Miles Davis , Hendrix, Che Guevara, Bill Gates, Jonh Lennon, etc

What are you doing personally (working, studying…)?

When I have some time at home I like to study piano, because it gives me a very different perspective of composing and harmonies.

If you have the chance to record an album with all musicians you like, which musicians will these be?

Drums – Dennis Chambers

Bass Gary Willis

Keyboard Hermeto Pascoal

That wouldn’t be something so metal

What was the craziest live gig of your band? Why?

I always remember the first time I played in Amazon capital, Manaus. The audience was wild as hell, they are all indians or indians descendent. You should be there to understand, it is undiscribable.

Do you have any last words?

Of Course. PENTA CAMPEÃO!!!!!!!!!!!!

That means- five time world champion

Thanks for all, to you and to all of our fans
